How can you help end or prevent a recession?

You don't need to fear this global economic turmoil, you can take action today to help end Canada's slip. And It's easier than you think. First you stay out of the malls, too stay away from the big box stores and their fields of parking lots. What you do is go DownTown, where the merchants who own the stores are your neighbours. What you do is shop local, you buy from a one off boutique that also buys more locally, more locally than your old no longer favourites, those non local firms that came in to town that paved over our once farm fields where our food is supposed to come from, you know the greedy global nationals.

When you shop locally you help sustain your local economy. Sure the local big box may have local people working @ it. Sure the local franchise is owned by locals too, but after all their global national beuracracies functions take their dues how much of YOUR money STAYS in your COMMUNITY? Not much I'll tell you. No where near as much when it's put into the hands of the Shop Keep at one of your regular shops in your local downtown.

The more you walk to your downtown, car pool to your downtown, or even drive to your downtown and instead spend your money in your downtown, the better off your community will be.

It is rather elementary in fact. These smaller companies are a more efficient use of your money and will help keep services in your community functioning due to the fact that these successful businesses in your downtown help keep tax dollars in your community as well, so your children can swim in the local pool, and your elderly neighbours can take advantage of advanced snow removal services and get out and shop in their downtown too.

It's all about sustaining your community so not only our generation but all generations are able to enjoy the best that we have to offer in this wonderful community.

When we buy local, when we shop in the village, it is like we are all rich beyond our dreams, our dollar is worth more than the face value, it has a longer life span DownTown, the effect it reigns when we spend it with our neighbours our colleagues that actually occupy the same space as we do has no equal.

So stay out of the malls, off the parking lot fields and get your self DownTown today to find those great deals, the Canadian Economy and your neighbours are counting on you!

In DownTown Burlington I encourage you to check out Brant Street, and Pearl St. Shops area's where our best selection of global brands and old fashion charm are never beat.

I agree that to help sustain our local economy is to shop local. Stop giving away your hard earned money to the big box stores that only see you as a number and where the funds go out of the country. Stay here, stay local, and participate in the micro economy of your local village. Support your unique boutique. Lots of designated parking is available in your downtown, and you don't have to trek out into those huge mall windy messy concrete landing pads they call parking lots at those big box malls. Say hi to your local shop owner and staff... Enjoy your boxing day sales downtown 2008! Support your community. Support your endeavours. Support the earth. Walk to your local shops and reduce your carbon footprint today!

If everyone got rid of their cars, and walked, worked, shopped and lived their lives in a village we'd all be alot better off. Years ago when I lived in the City there was a 6th month period that i did not leave a 1km by 1km area of the city, I realized one day wow, this is the way to live. Every day i would go out into the city streets and meet and bump into the same group of great people who all turn into your friends, it's like being Norm on cheers, and you only get that in a close knit village like community.
